Clothes have rules too

Last updated on

In order to remain organized and clutter-free you must establish systems, or rules, for your stuff. Here are some fairly basic rules that you can easily implement to help you keep a handle on your clothes: Check them seasonally. At the beginning of each season when you are switching out your wardrobe, take a fresh realistic look at the clothes you are moving into your closet for the upcoming season. Do you still like that style? Is there anything wrong with it? Does it fit? Put hangers backwards. When you move your clothes for the upcoming season into your closet,… read more »

Let’s tackle those closets

Last updated on

Our closets are a place that we use very frequently. If they are clutter filled and not in order, this can add to our daily stress because we waste time and energy searching for the things we need on a regular basis. Start off tackling the closet by pulling everything out of the closet and sorting the items into categories. Do not try to make any decisions on whether you need an item at this time, just sort. Once you have completely sorted the entire closet into categories, you can go back and make a more informed decison about the… read more »

Conquer your paper clutter

Last updated on

If you have piles and piles (or boxes and boxes) of paper clutter and you attempt to tackle it the way we would automatically by making a decision on each paper you pick up, you will be mentally exhausted after the first pile. The best way to tackle this, or any other clutter, is to sort the paperwork out first. Without making any decisions at all, sort your paperwork into these categories: Action papers – These are any papers that require action. Even if that means to enter a phone number in your phone book, a party invitation, etc. Reference… read more »

Spring cleaning each year gives us a chance to throw open the windows and let in some fresh air while we dig in to de-clutter and deep clean our homes. Creating a responsibility chart that works

Last updated on

Yesterday, I shared a great chart on our Facebook page that you can use as a visual reminder to help your kids learn routine & structure. I also mentioned that making the chart together helps kids take more ownership of the process too. That post prompted one of our clients to share the responsibility chart that she uses to rotate the chores between her 2 daughters. She has given me permission to share the chart and how it works with you here. First things first, after the family all worked together to come up with a list of the areas… read more »

Serving food at parties…simplified

My motto, and I believe an organized motto, is that you can never plan too early. With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, or really with any get together you plan, there are so many things you can do in advance that will really simplify things for you and allow you to really have time to enjoy your guests. As you can see in this picture, everything is on the table that I’ll need for my get together except for the hot and the cold dishes that you can’t really put out until the last minute. It’s actually much… read more »

Kitchen cabinet project

Last updated on

This was a quick little project I did in my own kitchen. I don’t keep things perfectly organized in my own home with cute little bins and labels simply because I don’t really need to since I don’t have a ton of stuff to manage. However, the cleaning supplies and such under my kitchen sink had always sort of irritated me. It was never a challenge to find what I needed, but I would always inadvertently knock over anywhere from 1-5 things each time I reached for something in the back. Then I would have to take the time to… read more »

Maximizing your storage space

Last updated on

A big part of getting organized is learning how to maximize your space. Many times we use whatever shelves or storage products we have lying around when we attempt to get organized. Or we don’t put much thought into what type of shelves or storage products would be best for the space before dashing out and grabbing whatever looks cute. It is critical to your organizing success that you take the time to really think through the appropriate storage products before you invest in them – or they just end up adding to your clutter. As you can see in… read more »

Ready or not, 2014 is almost here!

Last updated on

Where has the time gone? It’s so hard to believe that 2013 will be coming to an end before we know it! You know what that means? It’s time to start preparing for 2014. The most important thing you’ll need for an organized 2014 is a calendar or planner to capture all of the appointments, school schedules and other things you’ve already got scheduled for next year. I picked up my new planner today and have used a picture of it in this blog post. I love this particular planner made by Blue Sky and have used this style for… read more »
