Why we hold on to our stuff

Last updated on

There are some common reasons that we hold on to our stuff. Once we realize what is stopping us, it becomes easier to acknowledge it and then let it go. It actually is very empowering and freeing to let things go. Fear – We are afraid to let it go because we might need it some day. If you take the time and think the items potential use all the way through, you’ll more than likely realize that chances are you really won’t need it. Denial – Letting go means saying goodbye to things, people or a time that you’re… read more »

Where’s the fork?

Last updated on

Have you ever wondered where you would find a fork, or where the fork should go when you’re finished with it? I doubt it. That’s because the fork has been assigned a home in your house. Getting organized simply means finding a home for everything, so that you can find it as easily as finding a fork, when you need it. And you know exactly where it goes when you’re finished with it. Do you have plastic shopping bags everywhere? Falling out of pantries? Hanging out of drawers? Some in the kitchen? Some in the garage? Some in the basement? You simply wall mount this in a convenient location (mine is inside my pantry) and then you can store all of your empty plastic bags in one convenient location. Put it on paper

Last updated on

Goal setting is very important. And putting your goals down on paper can’t be stressed enough. Until you take the time to MAP out your goals, they won’t become a reality. Because we are creatures of nature, we normally spend our days doing the same things over and over. Once our goals are written down, and then broken down into manageable steps, we can begin to take action on them. If your goal is to buy a house someday, your manageable steps might look like this: Check credit reports to make sure there are no adverse things listed. Take action… read more »

Preparing for a move?

Last updated on

Preparing for a move is the key to a successful, stress-free move. You can begin preparing months before you move by determining what items you know you won’t use before you move and packing those right away. Establish where your holding zone will be. A holding zone is an out of the way place where you can begin storing any boxes that you pack in advance. Be sure to mark each box with the room that the box should land in at the new home in big letters. In smaller letters, you can write a brief description of what’s in… read more »

Oops, I did it again…

I’ve talked about my problem with time clutter many times before. It continues to be a challenge for me since my desire to help others is so strong, I forget to think about myself, and my own needs, when I accept commitments. In May 2013, I cleared my schedule completely for 2 weeks while I took the time to map out the vision, or direction, for my life, family and business. After mapping out the vision, I had to remove things from my schedule that didn’t fit into that vision. It was a great feeling to get clarity on what… read more »

Your unwanted shoes save lives

Last updated on

Isn’t that a fantastic thing? Your old unwanted shoes that are just laying around in your closet can save someone’s life. Did you know you had that power? Well you do, with the help of The Shoeman Water Projects! I have had the good fortune of meeting the founder of Shoeman Water Projects, George Hutchings, on several occasions over the years and to learn about his ministry. It is amazing to me the power that each one of us has to really change the world if we believe we can. George had already been collecting shoes for children in Kenya… read more »

Cute containers are a curse

Last updated on

What? Why would you say that? Because there is seldom a home that we walk into that doesn’t have lots of cute organizing containers. I always say if a company makes a basket and puts a cute little bow on it, people are going to buy them up like hot cakes. The problem with buying these cute little containers is that you are making an uneducated decision. You think to yourself oh that’s so cute, I know I can use it for something. The problem is that you don’t have a plan for it. You think your CDs might fit… read more »
