Create systems that work for you

Last updated on

If you are a small business owner like me, chances are that you wear many different hats. You are the sales person, the marketing person, the administrative person, the research person and the person that goes out on the job. With so many tasks to manage, it is very important to plan your week, to allow time for you to work in the various roles. It is equally important to come up with systems and procedures of how and when you will execute each task. For instance, you may determine that you will return phone calls daily between 9:00 a.m.… read more »

One of our favorite products

Last updated on

One of our favorite organizing products is a 6-quart storage box, otherwise known as a shoe box. We use these so often because they are a perfect solution for many different areas of the home or office. Because they are clear, it is easy to see at a glance what might be in them. They are also very easy to label and stack. Where can you use them? Bathroom closets: Use these storage containers for your medications, lotions, first aid items, etc, rather than struggling to find things because you have everything strewn about on a shelf in your bathroom… read more »

Why we keep stuff

Yesterday I reached for a perfume bottle with just a few sprays left in it, and then stopped myself from using it because if I used it, then it would be gone. I had to laugh when I realized that I’ve been doing that very same thing daily for at least a year. You see, it’s my favorite perfume, I wore it for years. Sadly they quit making it in 2004, and I wasn’t ready to let go of it. In 2007, a client had a bottle of it that she no longer wanted and so she offered it to… read more »

Recycling doesn’t end when you put your recyclables at the curb. If you follow the tips provided by the St Louis County Health Department listed below, you can make a positive difference: Look for products made with recycled materials. If you take the time to map out your day in advance, you will get so much more accomplished, and you will have more time to spend doing the things you love to do. Here’s a short example of how you can simplify your day and be more productive: Determine the things you need to get done that day. Let’s say I need to buy a present for a baby shower, drop the kids off for school and pick them up later, do two loads of laundry, do dishes, pick up laundry… read more »

Paper, paper, everywhere!

Last updated on

I recently worked with a client that had 7-8 boxes of paperwork sort of scattered throughout her home. Dealing with the paperwork seemed daunting and overwhelming and so she just put it off. In reality though, she was dealing with it every day by not dealing with it. She felt stressed, depressed, overwhelmed and out of control all of the time. As I’ve always said, clutter represents delayed decisions. The impact of putting the decisions off is much worse than taking the time to make the decisions. When we worked together, the client was forced to make the decisions about… read more »

My home is not perfect

Last updated on

People always ask me if my home is in perfect order, well it isn’t always. I do have a home for everything though, and so when it gets chaotic or I need to put everything back where it belongs, it doesn’t take long. You know, I have always been aware of the mental drain that a chaotic home or office environment has on people’s lives, but I recently got a taste of it first-hand. Within two weeks of each other, my older daughter moved back home and my younger daughter moved out. My older daughter had lived on her own… read more »

If you want to be more productive at work, it takes planning. What do I mean by planning to be more productive? That means taking the time in advance to: Determine every task, paper or project that comes across your desk. Establishing a home for each task, paper or project.
