Managing your email inbox – Part II

Last updated on

Yesterday’s post talked about the power of deleting emails. Today’s post is about doing your emails. There’s a great rule which basically says if you can do this in 2 minutes or less, do it now. That’s because it will take less time to finish the action in 2 minutes than it will take to park it somewhere else for later and go back to it. So just get it over with—it’s a great feeling! If the task is really important, needs to be done now, but will take more than 2 minutes, keep it right where it is in… read more »

Managing your email inbox – Part I

In today’s world, we are bombarded with information at a much higher rate than in years past. One of the biggest culprits is email. If you’re honest with yourself, probably 80% of what lands in your inbox can be deleted immediately or after a quick scan. Imagine if you get 50 to 100 emails a day, 40 to 80 of those can be deleted in a few minutes! How would it feel to have only 10 to 20 emails you need to really think about each day? Here are some guidelines to use for deleting: Junk, spam or chain letters:… read more »

Are your family memories sitting in a box?

Last updated on

As my children came into my life I wanted to document every single moment, convinced no other child before was like my wonderful little girls. I have a confession, I have hundreds of pictures and family videos now that no one ever looks at. Scan Digital can change that. They scan and digitize photos, slides, negatives and even home movies so you can preserve, share, and enjoy them forever. I have to admit that I was concerned about family memories being lost in the mail if I used their services. But after speaking with Matthew Stone, VP of Operations at… read more »

Let’s find your desktop

If your resolution this year was to get organized, I want to be the one that helps you reach that goal. Taking the time and energy to get organized truly changes your life. Let’s tackle your paperwork first: Sort papers into piles of reading, reference and action papers. Take a good look at your reading pile and determine if you realistically think you will read everything in that pile or not. If you realize that you probably can’t get to it all, decide to only keep your top 3 and recycle the rest. Move your reference papers to your file… read more »

A little planning goes a long way

If you haven’t already started yet, it’s time to start getting the paperwork together that you need for taxes. If you have been using a FreedomFiler, your tax papers are already together for you. It’s important to determine a home for all of your tax papers to live until you receive them all, or find them all. I normally use a magnetic clip on my refrigerator to catch all of the incoming tax papers as they arrive. If you have a lot of paperwork that is needed for your tax prep, a hanging or expanding folder will probably work best. Whatever… read more »

That’s so trashy

Trashy Lunch

I’ve always felt frustrated with the amount of unnecessary waste in the world. Whenever I buy one item from a store, or restaurant, and there is an extra 5-10 inches of paper on the receipt besides showing my purchase, it just sends me through the roof. That’s why my lunch experience yesterday inspired me to take a picture of the waste and post it here. This picture is from my lunch that I had delivered from Imo’s. When I unwrapped my sandwich, salad and soda, I stood back in amazement at the amount of waste there was just from that.… read more »

Keeping accurate mileage record

Last updated on

As a small business owner there are so many things to keep track of for your taxes. One of which is keeping track of your mileage. It can be a struggle to make sure it is tracked and documented all year. Either you forget to mark it down, you forget to bring a piece of paper to mark it on, or you lose the paper you marked it on. That can all be resoved with the Adams Vehicle Mileage Log AFR10. You can find these handy little books at Office Depot, Fed Ex Kinkos or several other places at a… read more »

You can reach your goals

Last updated on

Getting organized is a very detailed process that can be accomplished very simply if you have the ability to break things down into manageable chunks, and not look at the big picture. Goal setting is really no different. Many people are unable to reach their goals because they are paralyzed and overwhelmed by how big they are. They seem so unattainable. However, if you take the time to break down the steps to getting to your goal, it is much simpler and can be very rewarding since you celebrate each little success. Let’s say that your goal is to lose… read more »
