Do you reconcile your statements?

Last updated on

A very large number of our clients struggle with paperwork and mail. Many of them end up with a dozen or so boxes of mail that they’ve never even opened. Paper piles and paper management is one of my ultimate favorite things to organize and to help coach people on. A big part of why I love it is that we almost always find money in the paper piles either in check form, cash, gift cards or overpaid bills. I also love teaching people that most of the time, the paperwork they’re holding on to for dear life doesn’t have… read more »

Clutter creeps in

Last updated on

Unfortunately, staying organized and clutter-free is a process that never ends. It’s something that you always have to stay on top of, always have to devote time to and constantly have to tweak. Just as maintaining a weight loss requires constant attention, so does being organized. But it becomes easier and easier as habits and systems are created to do just that. You really have to keep a keen eye on everything that comes into your home or office to stay on top of it because it’s really easy for clutter to creep in. I’m a professional organizer, I love… read more »

The sneaky attack of paperwork

Last updated on

Who doesn’t struggle with piles and piles of paperwork? Very few people, that’s who. I am highly aware of all of the marketing tactics there are out there that sneak paperwork into people’s homes and offices. One of the tactics that works like a dream is giving you additional paperwork with your receipts. For just one week, make yourself really pay attention to all of the paperwork that people hand to you. Watch how you take that paper, put it in your car and take it back to your office or home. That junk paperwork is then mixed in with… read more »

Rid yourself of the weight that’s holding you back

If you want to finish the race of life, if you want to make it to the finish line, you’re going to have to let go of some things that may be holding you back in the race. Call it decluttering; call it simplifying; there are some things that need to be laid aside in order to finish well. What kind of things am I talking about? The things that cause you to get discouraged or weigh you down. Think of it this way. If you attach one light bulb to a battery, the battery will run for a long… read more »

Write email messages with your purpose in mind

Last updated on

Most managers receive over 100 email messages per day, and spend only a second or two deciding whether to open them. Most such decisions are based on the subject line. Even when they open the message, they may only read a line or two before deleting it and going on to the next one. If you take the time to send an email message, take the time necessary to insure it fulfills its purpose. For instance, craft the subject line so it grabs their attention while telling them what the email message is about. Put the vital information in the… read more »

Ready to part with some stuffed animals?

Last updated on

I recently became aware of the fact that alot of fire departments and police departments like to receive donations of small stuffed animals. They give the stuffed animals to children who are the victims of house fires, car accidents, en route to a hospital, or kids who are involved in custody incidents. A great place to start looking for more information on how you can donate your stuffed animals to this great cause is by visiting SAFE’s (Stuffed Animals For Emergency) website and/or contacting your local fire and police departments.

A heavy price for keeping stuff

Sometimes people searching for help squirm at the costs of hiring a professional organizer to help them get organized. Most everyone that calls us is feeling pain in one way or another – stress, emotions, overwhelmed, etc. Don’t get me wrong, there are many people that see the value in hiring a professional organizer, but there are some that don’t because I don’t think they can truly see the price they’re paying for not getting organized. Recently a local 75 year old woman was found dead in her home that was packed full of stuff she saved. Among the clutter,… read more »

How old are your spices?

Last updated on

The flavor experts at McCormick recommend the following tips for checking your spices freshness: Check to see that the color of your spices and herbs is vibrant. If the color has faded, chances are so has the flavor. Rub or crush the spice or herb in your hand. If the aroma is weak and flavor is not apparent, it’s time to replace it. Store herbs and spices in tightly capped containers, and keep away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Replace bottle lids tightly immediately after use. If you have McCormick spice in rectangular tins, except for black pepper, the… read more »

I was contacted by the Casting Director for the TV Show Enough Already! with Peter Walsh. They are looking for individuals and families that are in desperate need of a professional organizer but who cannot afford it and have nowhere to turn. Although they have fantastic submisisons from people suffering with the weight of their clutter, they are still on the hunt for that BIG story.
