I’m a “Do It Yourself-er”

Last updated on

I have always been the type of person that would prefer to do things myself. I like the feeling of accomplishment I get when I do things myself and I like the challenge of figuring out how to do it on my own. In all honesty, I think one of the biggest factors that played into me being a do-it-yourself-er was that there was never an excess amount of money that I could use to hire others to do it for me. Well, I can tell you that my opinion of not having enough money to have other people help… read more »

Silly little time saving tips

Last updated on

I must confess that I do so many little things to save myself time and aggravation that others may think are silly but I know they simplify my life. Why don’t you try a few and give me your feedback. Removing tops: Rather than wasting time opening and closing a package to get to what I need, I remove the tops of things when I purchase them, such as egg cartons, pop tart boxes and dog treat boxes. Remove excess packaging: Rather than fumbling with things that have excess packaging when I’m in a rush, I take the time to… read more »

Time Timer is a fantastic tool for people with special needs such as students with ADD, ADHD, autism, etc.; counseling situations; occupational and physical therapy sessions; stroke and brain injury rehabilitation; and geriatric care. Time Timer is so easy to use that even young children and those with learning disabilities can monitor their own timed activities. I highly recommend this tool for anyone struggling with ADD. This innovative tool incorporates a red disc into a common kitchen timer to show the passage of time. As time elapses, the red disc disappears. You see and feel time elapse as the Time… read more »

If you are a small business owner like me, chances are that you wear many different hats. You are the sales person, the marketing person, the administrative person, the research person and the person that goes out on the job. With so many tasks to manage, it is very important to plan your week, to allow time for you to work in the various roles. It is equally important to come up with systems and procedures of how and when you will execute each task. For instance, you may determine that you will return phone calls daily between 9:00 a.m.… read more »

Being more productive at home just takes planning. If you take the time to map out your day in advance, you will get so much more accomplished, and you will have more time to spend doing the things you love to do. Here’s a short example of how you can simplify your day and be more productive: Determine the things you need to get done that day. Want to be more productive at work?

If you want to be more productive at work, it takes planning. What do I mean by planning to be more productive? That means taking the time in advance to: Determine every task, paper or project that comes across your desk. Establishing a home for each task, paper or project. This is where it will live until you have the time to work on it. Do like things with like things. Make all of your phone calls at once, pay all of your bills at once, etc. Create a schedule for when the work will be done. Normally tackling the… read more »

Setting limits with your time

Last updated on

A bad habit that I have is that when a client or anyone else wants to schedule some of my time, I simply look to the next blank date in my calendar and pencil them in. From there, I begin to pencil in things around those initial appointments until my entire day, then entire week and eventually entire month is completely booked. At that point it is too late to take time out for myself and I end up exhausted. Our time is valuable, so it is very important that we set up certain limits and boundaries with it or… read more »

Time clutter

Last updated on

We normally think of clutter as physical objects, but there are many types of clutter that aren’t. Cluttering our mind with too much information, cluttering our body with too much junk food and cluttering our schedule with too many commitments are examples of other types of clutter. I have struggled with time clutter since I launched Simplified Living Solutions, Inc. I tend to fill my planner and to do list without even considering if what I am scheduling will really benefit me, my company or my family. The problem stems from the fact that I never took the time to… read more »
